M60 Closures Cause Chaos Across Greater Manchester
Greater Manchester Police were called to Barton Bridge on the M60 at approximately 9:40am on Monday following reports of a concern for the welfare of a man on the bridge. Tragically, the man fell from the bridge and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The motorway was immediately closed in both directions between Junction 10 (Trafford Park) and Junction 11 (Eccles/Barton), with National Highways implementing diversions and urging motorists to avoid the area entirely and plan alternative routes.
Diversion Routes
For anti-clockwise traffic, the official diversion takes drivers off at Junction 12 onto the M602 eastbound, then via the A576 southbound through Trafford Park before rejoining the M60 at Junction 9 via the A5081. Motorists are advised to follow the hollow circle symbol on road signs.
The closures caused severe disruption across the wider road network throughout the day, with knock-on delays reported on the M62, the A580, and local roads through Eccles, Stretford, and Salford.
